NSW Nurses Get The Ratio Right

NSW Nurses are to vote on the 1 Nurse to 4 Patient ratio and 9% pay rise over two years.

Its great to see its fianally been negotiated but for me its not enough to keep me in nursing as I feel my future lays in creating an income online. My current interest lays in creating phone apps. Did you know that there has been 10 billion apps downloaded from the Apple app shop? That is more apps downloaded than cans of coke that have been consumed! If you have a problem maybe you can invent an app to help solve it.

App development is a new and exciting industry to get into. I am currently working on a few app ideas so stay tuned.

At Last The Answer Has Appeared!

NIDA was amazing!

I am back in Bathurst now after attending NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) in Sydney on Thursday and Friday. Our teacher Clinton was truly terrific at delivering an amazing amount of information in the limited time (just 2days). I must admit going to NIDA was like a visit to Mars as it was like a different world, totally different to what I was used to in my nursing job.

By the end of the two days I had a much better idea of how to get an idea into a script with structure and meaning, use camera and sound equipment, lighting, using a story board, planing the different shots and camera angles, how to give direction to get the best work from actors, editing and completion of the film.

I am still working on my concept (will keep you posted) for my submission to the NSW Nurses Association 2010 Short Film Festival. I do now have a new appreciation as to how much work went into last years entries and feel better equiped for my submission after completing the short course at NIDA.

I am very excited to be heading off to Sydney this week for a two day course at NIDA on how to make a short film. I hope to have a 5min short film to submit to the 2010 NSW Nurses Association Short Film Festival.

I have a lot of ideas for the film but haven’t yet narrowed it down to one idea. I have until Feb 2010 to submit my film. It has to be related to nursing which is understandable but it would be great to have a unique concept or come up with something that will make a difference for nursing or nurses.

I am looking forward to learning from the worlds leading experts at NIDA. I hope to pick up a lot of tips, tricks and know how for making my film. I will let you know how I go at NIDA.

My Search for a blogging teacher is over

I am very relieved to have found Yaro Starak who is a Brisbane based professional blogger and blogging teacher.
I have been a paid blogger for the NSW Nurses Association blog www.nurseuncut.com.au as MrNetNurse for the past 4 months. I like blogging so much I thought to myself that I would like to see if I can make a living from it. Once I asked this question I soon discovered Yaro Starak through a nursing friend that had heard him speak recently at Daryl and Andrew Grant’s Internet Marketing seminar in Sydney.

I am looking forward to doing Yaro’s blogging course early in the new year (when I have a little more time). I have been subscribed to Yaro’s blog site for a few months now and I have noticed that he gives away great free content via his newsletters plus his interviews with his sucessful graduates of his course are very convincing and they all attribute their sucess to Yaro’s course. As a nurse having dealt with thousands of people over 21 years of nursing you can soon tell when someone is not legitimate. Yaro is the real deal so I have no hesitation in recommending Yaro and his course as he seems to takes great care of his students.

Nursing Webinars are they the way forward?

Webinars are taking the world by storm and changing the way many people in business communicate with their clients. I believe webinars also offer a huge opportunity for nurses to have access to the most up to date and interesting speakers from all over the world. Webinars can unshackle us from the traditional 1/2 hour in-service that is given in the ward by your colleages or a product rep and opens up the opportunity to have this access from the comfort and conveinience of your own home. I cant think of a better way to keep up to date with the latest and greatest in the world of nursing.

For those of you that like me until recently had never heard of a webinar…a “webinar” is when a presentation (generally in power-point) is given over the internet. To attend or join a webinar people register via a web link to join the webinar via a unique code and password at a pre-scheduled time and date. There is a facilitator to run the webinar and the speaker gives their presentation live. As an audience member you can hear the presenters voice and see their power point slides. A bit like a presentation at a conference and you can click a button to “raise your hand” so that you can then ask a question of the speaker.

To join a webinar you need a computer, broadnband internet connection, speakers or headset that plugs into the computer, a microphone that plugs into the computer and an email address. You would be sent an invitation via email or click on a link on my web site to register to attend. You would then be emailed back a unique link to join the webinar at the scheduled time.

I have included a survey here to try and collect some feed back from other nurses to see if it would be worthwhile me setting up regular webinars for nurses to access. Please complete the survey it only takes a couple of minutes.

Kurek was great and my son had a blast!

Kurek is a fantastic speaker. The room was set up so you are never far away from where he presents from. The content was great and everyone there participated and got a lot out of it.

I took my 11yo son and he really got a lot out of it especially the fire walk! I was so pumped I did three fire walks! I am now applying what I learnt and am a better person as a result. Thanks Kurek.

I would out hesitation recommend Kurek’s “Life to the Max” workshop. Kurek’s workshop was better then the UPW course I paid $1,500 for with Tony Robbins and Kurek had a recession buster special price of $100/ticket.
